This month, we watch in horror and dismay as federal immigration agents begin a series of raids, rounding up Central American families—mostly women and children—for deportation. We are told these families, fleeing the carnage of their native countries, are not eligible for asylum in the United States. And so our government denies them safety and refuge, and prepares to send women and children back to face violence and terror alone.
