Resisting the Border Closure: Migrants Speak

Since January 20, 2025, the Trump administration has moved aggressively to destroy the U.S. asylum system.
By declaring an “invasion” at the southern border, shutting down the CBP One app, targeting already-approved refugees for deportation, and canceling thousands of long-awaited asylum appointments, the administration has systematically closed pathways to safety.
These are deliberate mechanisms designed to deter and exclude people seeking protection.
The right to seek asylum is a humanitarian protection recognized by the United Nations to safeguard refugees who cannot remain in their home countries due to persecution.
Instead, many are forced to wait in third countries where their lives remain in danger and where they have little to no protection.
We invite you to stand with those whose lives are being directly impacted. In addition to migrants’ stories, partner organizations fighting for migrants’ rights will share two major lawsuits that the U.S. Supreme Court is currently reviewing, which challenge metering and the closure of the southern border.

Desde el 20 de enero de 2025, la administración Trump ha actuado agresivamente para destruir el sistema de asilo en Estados Unidos.
Al declarar una “invasión” en la frontera sur, cerrar la aplicación CBP One, dirigir esfuerzos para deportar a refugiados que ya habían sido aprobados y cancelar miles de citas de asilo largamente esperadas, la administración ha cerrado sistemáticamente las vías hacia la seguridad.
Estos son mecanismos deliberados diseñados para disuadir y excluir a las personas que buscan protección.
El derecho a solicitar asilo es una protección humanitaria reconocida por las Naciones Unidas para salvaguardar a quienes no pueden permanecer en sus países de origen debido a la persecución.
En cambio, muchos se ven obligados a esperar en terceros países donde sus vidas siguen en peligro y donde cuentan con poca o ninguna protección.

Además de escuchar las historias de migrantes, organizaciones aliadas que luchan por los derechos de los migrantes compartirán información sobre dos importantes demandas que actualmente está revisando la Corte Suprema de Estados
