Joseph could not go back. The violence and political instability he had fled in Ethiopia had only grown more terrifying.
If Joseph was going to be allowed to stay in the United States, he would need to apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). And, the officer at his ICE check-in told him, if he did not immediately provide evidence of his submitted TPS application, he would be deported.
But Joseph could not afford to pay for a private attorney to help him…
