National Justice for Our Neighbors is deeply saddened by today’s Supreme Court split decision in US v Texas which will force millions of immigrants across this nation to keep living in the shadows. The court’s 4-4 indecision means that President Obama’s executive actions, which were announced in November 2014 and have been tied up in the lower courts since early 2015, cannot go forward at this time.
This leaves our immigrant neighbors in fear of being separated from their parents, children, and family. This indecision denies many immigrants the opportunity to work lawfully, drive, or to truly become part of our American society.
NJFON will continue advocating for immigration reform that protects families and secures a future for them here in the United States. We remain committed to fighting for and serving our immigrant brothers and sisters who seek safety and security for their families. Our network will continue assisting with the 2012 DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) cases, which are not affected by today’s ruling.
Yes, we lost today’s battle. But we did not, and will not, lose hope. We will continue to fight until justice prevails.
